Evidence Drafting is Necessary/ Sometimes I need to remind myself how big of a LOTR nerd I am
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king
- J.R.R. Tolkien - The Lord Of The RingsNot only a beautiful poem that is written with simple yet elegant language but each line so carefully expresses so much of the history and mythology of Middle Earth.
Tolkien’s son Chrisopher printed this version of the poem which is, honestly, quite clumsy and says far less.
All that is gold does not glitter;
all that is long does not last;
All that is old does not wither;
not all that is over is past.
Not all that have fallen are vanquished;
a king may yet be without crown,
A blade that was broken be brandished;
and towers that were strong may fall downFurthermore the line “A blade that was broken be brandished” intended as throwaway line. In the original poem this line helped express the general idea of the paragraph which was that with time expectations may be proven false and the things may unexpededly change. However it would lead to Tolkien’s creation of a deeper level of prophecy which would include a literal sword, Narsil, in need of reforging.
Fuck I love these books!
